Brokkr Bare Metal Requirements


Management Server


Number of Management Hosts:

  • Dependent on desired implementation (discussed in on-boarding call), ranges from 1-3 Hosts.
  • Host One: The Brokkr Management server (includes Foreman software and Checkout UI)
  • Host Two: Smart Proxy on Management Port Subnet
  • Host Three: Smart Proxy on Client Subnet
  • Note: Smarty Proxy hosts can be combined. Smart Proxy host need to meet minimum hardware requirements.


Hardware Requirements:

  • Processor: At least one 64-bit x86_64 or ARM64 (AArch64) processor, with a minimum of 2 cores.
  • Memory: Minimum 4 GB of RAM, but 8 GB is recommended for better performance.
  • Storage: Minimum 20 GB of free disk space, but 40 GB is recommended to store operating system images, configurations, and logs.
  • At least one Network Interface Card (NIC) with a minimum speed of 1 Gbps.


Operating System:

  • A compatible Linux-based operating system, such as:
  • Ubuntu 18.04 LTS or later
  • Ensure that the OS is updated with the latest patches and security updates.
  • Root access to the provided management hosts.
  • Configure NTP for time synchronization.


Customer Bare Metal Inventory

  • Admin access to management interfaces for full life-cycle management.

RAID Configuration:

  • RAID controller with hardware or software RAID support.
  • Minimum of two hard drives with the same capacity.
  • RAID 1 (mirroring) for redundancy and fault tolerance. RAID 5 or RAID 10 can be used for better performance and fault tolerance, but they require a minimum of three and four hard drives, respectively.


Network Configuration

  • A static IP address assigned to the Brokkr management server and smart proxies.
  • Ensure that the following ports are open in the firewall:
  • 22 (SSH)
  • 80 (HTTP)
  • 443 (HTTPS)
  • Proper DNS resolution for the server's hostname.
  • Management port access (iLO, DRAC, IPMI) on management subnet.
  • Customer Subnet routing all discoverable Bare Metal servers for customer consumption; Foreman smart proxy must be able to listen on this subnet and the smart proxy must be routable from our foreman management server.
